Situated on a hill in Tai O on Lantau Island, the Old Tai O Police Station was constructed in 1902. The compound comprised of a main building and an outhouse. The two-storey main building was constructed with brick walls topped with Chinese tile roof with a wooden structure. Designed by then Public Works Department, the building is a typical colonial architecture with arched verandahs on both levels. The outhouse was reconstructed into a two-storey structure in 1962 with a one-storey extension added to its side. The Old Police Station had been operating till 1996 and became one of the projects under Batch I of the “Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme”. In 2011, it was revistalised into a heritage hotel. The hotel with nine rooms and unique rooftop glass restaurant is now a signature tourist spot in Tai O.
