In 1841, British landed at Possession Street (its English name remains the same today) in Sheung Wan and declared occupancy of Hong Kong, the British flag was hoisted at the occupy point (Hollywood Road Park of today). Later development extended along the west to east to connect the main road of Government Hill, where Hollywood Road is deemed the earliest street in existence in Hong Kong.
In present time, Hollywood Road has transformed from a den for outlaws to top 5-ranking sightseeing streets in the world. Connecting Tai Ping Shan Street, Lascar Row, Man Mo Temple, Wing Lee Street, PMQ, the Soho and Lan Kwai Fang, Hollywood Road enchants tourists around the world with antique stores, art galleries, fashion stores, restaurants, coffee shops and its exotic ambience.
英軍於一八四一年佔領香港時選定上環的水坑口(今天英文仍沿用Possession Street名稱)，並在佔領角 (即今天的荷李活道公園) 升旗；隨著，沿西向東行開發以連接到政府山的主路，故荷李活道亦為香港最早的街道。
今天的荷李活道已由早期的龍蛇混雜搖身一變，並串連太平山街、摩囉街、文武廟、永利街、PMQ、上下蘇豪區、蘭桂坊等；以古董文玩店、畫廊、潮店、餐廳及咖啡店等異國風情馳名中外，被列為全球第五位的觀光街道。
