Bishop's House, Central

1851, Religious

1 Lower Albert Road

In the early days of Hong Kong’s development, British had constructed various buildings on Government Hill. Other than establishments serving administrative purposes, religious structures including Bishop’s House and St. Paul's Church were also constructed on the west of Government Hill. Bishop’s House was built in 1848. It was the residence of the Archbishop Bishop and the first church school of The Hong Kong Anglican Church – St. Paul’s College. While embodying Tudor Revival style with its large window protruding from the middle of the façade, Bishop’s House also houses granite stonework and three-storey octagonal tower, which differentiated itself from typical Tudor Revival style that emphasized simplicity and rusticated features. The Hong Kong Anglican Church is planning to reconstruct the surrounding compound with a new revitalisation plan. As a Grade 1 historic building, Bishop’s House will be preserved together with other three architectural structures.
