In 1955, as the government’s Public Works Department was levelling off a site in Lee Cheng Village, a tomb was discovered by site contractors. From the unearthed structure, construction materials and relics, experts determined that the tomb was built in Eastern Han Dynasty, over a thousand years from now. In order to keep the tomb and other historical facilities well-preserved, a concrete shell covered by grass was constructed in the same year. The unearthed historic relics were housed in an adjacent small exhibition hall. In 2005, the Architectural Services Department added a canopy to lessen the impact of rain and enhance protection of the tomb. In 1988, Lee Cheng Village Old Tomb was listed as a declared monument of Hong Kong, providing a historical and cultural leisure ground for city dwellers.
